**[Letztes britisches Kohlekraftwerk
schließt](https://www.tagesschau.de/wirtschaft/energie/kohle-aus-grossbritannien-100.html)**:

After over 140 years, the UK is shutting down its last coal-fired power
plant, marking the end of coal energy production in the country. The
closure makes the UK the first major industrialized nation to eliminate
coal power. Richard Montgomery, an engineer who worked at the
Ratcliffe-on-Soar power plant for 43 years, is among those affected by
the change. The transition away from coal power began in the early 2000s
when air pollution regulations became stricter, requiring plants to
modernize and leading to a rise in the cost of coal-generated
electricity. Natural gas emerged as a cleaner and cheaper alternative,
with the UK now actively promoting offshore natural gas exploration. The
share of gas in the UK\'s 2022 energy mix was over 38%, while wind power
accounted for more than 26%. By 2035, the UK aims to create a nearly
carbon-neutral energy mix by encouraging solar and offshore wind
projects. Uniper, the German owner of the Ratcliffe-on-Soar plant, plans
to produce green hydrogen at the site after demolishing its eight
cooling towers. The shift from coal power is seen as a loss of local
identity for some residents.

**[New research on anesthesia unlocks important clues about the nature
of
consciousness](https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2024/09/240905120923.htm)**:

The study conducted by Wellesley College professor Mike Wiest and his
team has provided crucial experimental results relevant to the debate
about the physical basis of consciousness in the brain. By examining how
anesthesia affects the brain, they found that when rats were given a
drug binding to microtubules, it took them significantly longer to fall
unconscious under an anesthetic gas. This suggests that the anesthetic
acts on microtubules to cause unconsciousness and supports the idea that
consciousness is quantum in nature. The researchers believe this could
lead to a new era of understanding what we are, potentially impacting
various aspects like understanding how anesthesia works, exploring
conscious experiences, and addressing diseases such as Alzheimer\'s or
schizophrenia.

**[CPU Throttling for containerized Go applications
explained](https://kanishk.io/posts/cpu-throttling-in-containerized-go-apps/)**:

The article discusses the issue of Go program experiencing CPU
throttling due to lack of awareness about containerized environments and
cgroup limits. It explains how CPU limits are defined and enforced by
Kubernetes using Linux Completely Fair Scheduler (CFS), and how a Go
program can experience throttling when GOMAXPROCS is not set
appropriately. The article suggests setting a proper value for
GOMAXPROCS according to the CPU limit to avoid throttling, and also
highlights the benefits of setting limits instead of not setting them at
all.

**[A Taxonomy of Tech
Debt](https://technology.riotgames.com/news/taxonomy-tech-debt)**:

In this article, Bill \"LtRandolph\" Clark, the engineering manager for
the Champions team on League of Legends (LoL), discusses various types
of tech debt that can occur in software development. He emphasizes the
importance of understanding and measuring tech debt using the axes of
impact, fix cost, and contagion. He gives examples of different
categories of tech debt, such as local debt, MacGyver debt, foundational
debt, and data debt, and explains how they can be approached for fixing.
Clark emphasizes that contagion is often overlooked but can make a fix
difficult, and that turning contagion into a weapon by making the fix
more contagious than the problem can help mitigate tech debt.

**[Pluralistic: Academic economists get big payouts when they help
monopolists beat antitrust (25 Sep
2024)](https://pluralistic.net/2024/09/25/epistemological-chaos/#incentives-matter)**:

The article highlights how academic economists have been receiving large
payouts for helping monopolists beat antitrust laws, especially in
recent years with the resurgence of global antitrust enforcement. This
has led to a crisis of expertise as there is a blurred line between
expertise and advocacy. The article also discusses how this corruption
has created an epistemological void and made laypeople more vulnerable
to authoritarian grifters and conspiratorial swindlers.

**[96% OF CLIMATE POLICY SINCE 1998
FAILED](https://www.alumni.ox.ac.uk/article/96-of-climate-policy-since-1998-failed)**:

A new study published in Science has unveiled a global evaluation of
1,500 climate policy measures from 41 countries between 1998 and 2022.
The findings reveal that only 63 cases, or approximately 4% of the total
analyzed, had meaningful emission reductions. The study highlights that
successful cases included tax and price incentives in well-designed
policy mixes. The research team concluded that focusing on typical
effects of effective policies would close the emissions gap by 26% to
41%, a significant contribution to meeting Paris Targets.

Be](https://gizmodo.com/fluoride-in-our-drinking-water-may-not-be-as-useful-as-it-used-to-be-2000507454)**:

A new review by scientists suggests that while water fluoridation may
slightly reduce the risk of cavities in young children, its overall
impact is likely smaller than it was 50 years ago before fluoride was
widely available in toothpaste. The researchers examined 22 studies on
community water fluoridation programs and found that today\'s programs
may still lead to slightly less tooth decay in children\'s baby teeth,
but the benefits are probably smaller than they were prior to 1975. The
review also notes potential risks of these programs such as dental
fluorosis, increased risk of kidney health issues, and neurobehavioral
problems in children exposed to fluoride during pregnancy.

**[Italien: Zulieferer für Boeing 787 soll gefälschte Teile geliefert
haben](https://www.golem.de/news/italien-zulieferer-fuer-boeing-787-soll-gefaelschte-teile-geliefert-haben-2410-189546.html)**:

The Italian state prosecutor is investigating two suppliers from Apulia
for allegedly providing substandard components for the Boeing 787
Dreamliner, which are less resilient. La Stampa reports that the
investigation was launched due to safety concerns in the production of
the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and involves two companies based in Apulia.
The prosecutor\'s office in Brindisi has concluded its preliminary
investigation and has issued seven individuals and two companies with
orders over their alleged involvement in a joint criminal act.

The inquiry, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza in Brindisi, revealed a
series of suspected offenses including endangering transport safety,
pollution, and fraud. The case dates back to a previous investigation in
2021 that led to the seizure of assets of the two companies and three
arrests.

Investigators focused on the supply of airframe components to
Leonardo-Aerostructures, which manufactures sections 44 and 6 of the
Boeing 787 Dreamliner\'s fuselage. The investigation found that pure
titan was allegedly used instead of specified titanium alloy for
structural parts, as well as other alloys not in line with
specifications.

The use of non-conforming materials reportedly led to significant cost
savings for suppliers but compromised the integrity of the components.
Initial investigations found around 6,000 aircraft parts confiscated and
subjected to quality checks. Technical advisors specializing in
aerospace reported that at least 4,829 titanium components and 1,158
aluminum components did not meet construction specifications.

The authorities found contaminated waste stored in tanks and on
industrial sites in Brindisi containing hazardous substances such as
chromium, copper, zinc, arsenic, and lead which have contaminated the
soil and groundwater. The contamination is said to be a result of
surface treatment processes.

In the course of the investigation, 35 tanks with 1,000 liters of
hazardous waste were secured. Authorities found that suspects had
removed part of the fence between properties to empty tanks containing
hazardous substances onto private property and into rainwater cisterns.

A survey conducted by the prosecutor\'s office found contamination up to
three meters deep in the soil. Leonardo and Boeing cooperated as
involved parties during the investigation, assisting with the
identification of non-conforming aircraft components. The US Department
of Justice and FBI provided support for international law enforcement
assistance to Italian investigators and judicial authorities.

**[Hausarztvertrag: Vor- und Nachteile für Patienten und
Kollegen](https://www.aerzteblatt.de/archiv/46198/Hausarztvertrag-Vor-und-Nachteile-fuer-Patienten-und-Kollegen)**:

The BEK-Hausarzt-Hausapotheken model has advantages and disadvantages
for both patients and participating doctors. Patients may face
restrictions on the choice of medications, hospital visits, and reduced
treatment options. Doctors are required to prescribe only the cheapest
medicines, reduce prescriptions, enroll patients in disease management
programs (DMP), and share costs with the Krankenkasse. This model
increases bureaucracy and creates additional workload for doctors. The
majority of medical associations in East Westphalia-Lippe have rejected
this contract due to its one-sided financial benefits, rationing,
rationalization, cost savings, and increased control.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

**[Hausarztprogramm - teilnehmen oder
nicht?](https://www.krankenkasseninfo.de/ratgeber/60340/hausarztprogramm-teilnehmen-oder-lieber-nicht.html)**:

The benefits of primary care physician programs include the improvement
in coordination of treatment, reduced stress and health risks for
patients, and better cost-effectiveness through targeted prescriptions
and fewer unnecessary tests. Some insurance companies also offer
premiums for signing up to these programs. House doctors can help with
selecting specialists and arranging appointments, potentially reducing
waiting times or offering evening appointments. Participating physicians
commit to ongoing education and maintaining their practices according to
specific standards to ensure high-quality care.

The downsides include limited freedom of choice for patients, binding
them to a particular doctor and requiring at least one year membership
with the insurance company. Patients may find it difficult to seek
second opinions from different specialists, as they rely heavily on
their primary care physician. Insurance companies can access patient
treatment data, potentially limiting therapy choices. Participation in
these programs is usually mandatory for at least one year.

**[Title:Fear and Loathing on the Frontline: Decoding the Language of
Othering by Russia-Ukraine War
Bloggers](https://arxiv.org/abs/2409.13064)**:

The article discusses the concept of othering, which involves portraying
outgroups as fundamentally different from ingroups and can escalate into
framing them as existential threats. This phenomenon contributes to
intergroup conflict, justifying exclusion and violence. It is present in
various historical contexts, such as genocides against minorities, and
contemporary issues like the treatment of migrants in the US and Europe.
The article introduces a novel computational framework that uses large
language models (LLMs) to quantify othering across diverse contexts,
extending beyond traditional linguistic indicators of hostility. This
framework is applied to real-world data from Telegram war bloggers and
political discussions on Gab, revealing how othering escalates during
conflicts, interacts with moral language, and garners significant
attention during periods of crisis. The goal of this framework is to
provide deeper insights into othering dynamics and facilitate the
development of tools to mitigate its adverse impacts on social cohesion.

The eight-week study found that there was a placebo effect when using
probiotics for constipation relief, as both the probiotic and placebo
groups experienced similar improvements in complete spontaneous bowel
movements (CSBMs) without any statistical difference between them. No
significant differences were observed in individual symptoms of
constipation, stool consistency or straining, bloating and abdominal
pain, quality of life scores, or fecal microbiota composition. Stool
sample tests also revealed no significant changes. The increase in CSBM
frequency for both groups was attributed to the placebo effect rather
than the probiotic\'s efficacy.

**[The profit-obsessed monster destroying American emergency
rooms](https://www.vox.com/health-care/374820/emergency-rooms-private-equity-hospitals-profits-no-surprises)**:

Private equity firms have significantly impacted emergency care in the
United States, with around 25% of emergency rooms being under their
control as of March 2024. These firms are known for cutting staffing
levels and increasing productivity to save on salaries, leading to poor
patient care and doctor burnout. The No Surprises Act of 2022 aimed at
reducing surprise medical bills but has not completely eliminated the
issue. To protect oneself in emergency situations, patients should try
to go to in-network hospitals with in-network doctors and make an
advance plan for how to get to the hospital if possible.

**[Prepaid-Guthaben: So lassen Sie es sich
auszahlen](https://www.teltarif.de/prepaid/guthaben/auszahlen.html)**:

This article discusses the rights and responsibilities related to
prepaid cards in Germany, including the process of loading, unloading,
cancelling, and refunding prepaid credit. Prepaid card users have the
freedom to load and cancel their cards as they choose, without being
bound by long-term contracts like traditional cell phone plans. They
also have the ability to switch providers within a few days while
keeping their existing phone number for free. On the other hand,
providers can terminate prepaid accounts at any time but must refund the
remaining credit. If customers find better deals elsewhere, they can
easily switch to another provider without paying any fees or losing
their current phone number.

Prepaid card users are entitled to a legal guarantee of reimbursement
for prepaid credits by providers. However, this does not apply if the
customer has not explicitly requested the refund within a specified
period of time (usually three years). Providers cannot charge fees for
reimbursing customers and must return the credit to them.

Prepaid cards\' cancellation is not automatically linked to refunds in
Germany, which can lead to confusion among users who assume that their
entire balance, including start-up or bonus credits, will be returned.
Instead, only self-loaded balances must be repaid - start-up or bonus
credits are considered expired and do not have to be refunded.

Prepaid card customers can request a refund for their credit by
contacting the provider through various methods, such as emails, phone
calls, or using online forms. Providers may require additional
identification information from the customer to verify their identity,
particularly if they purchased the prepaid card before registration and
identification requirements were introduced in 2004.

**[Samsung-Update legt Galaxy-Handys
lahm](https://www.heise.de/news/Samsung-Update-legt-Galaxy-Handys-lahm-9962034.html?view=print)**:

Samsung has released a faulty update for some older Galaxy models,
causing them to get stuck in a bootloop and become unusable. The
affected devices are reportedly from the Galaxy S10 and Note10
generation, which were released in 2019. Some of the impacted devices
include the Galaxy M51 and A90. According to a translated statement from
Samsung Korea, the issue affects phones running Android 12. The company
has stopped distributing the faulty update.

The problem is related to Samsung\'s SmartThings Framework (version
2.2.02.1), which controls smart home devices. A new version with the
number 2.2.03.1, reportedly fixes the issue but cannot be installed by
those stuck in the bootloop. Samsung has not provided a simple solution
to fix the problem yet, and some users have had to visit service centers
in South Korea for assistance.

Owners of affected devices can reset their phones to factory settings
and then download the updated version, but this may result in data loss.
It is advised to wait for Samsung to clarify the situation before taking
any action that could lead to data loss.

Federal prosecutors have laid out their most extensive case against
former President Donald Trump for his attempt to overturn the 2020
election. The legal brief, unsealed by a federal judge, offers new
detail about special counsel Jack Smith\'s investigation into Trump\'s
efforts to lean on state officials and paint a narrative of widespread
fraud that prosecutors say he knew was untrue. The document includes new
details of Trump\'s frayed relationship with former Vice President Mike
Pence, FBI evidence of Trump\'s phone usage on January 6, 2021, when
rioters overtook the US Capitol, and conversations with family members
and others where then-President Trump was fighting his loss to Joe
Biden. Smith argues that Trump\'s actions were a private one and not
part of his official duties as president, therefore he is not entitled
to protection from prosecution.

**[What happens when solar panels
die?](https://www.engadget.com/science/what-happens-when-solar-panels-die-140019832.html?src=rss)**:

By the end of 2024, there will be nearly 2,000 Gigawatts of solar
generation capacity in service worldwide. Solar panels are typically
replaced after about 30 years due to efficiency loss caused by sun
exposure damaging laminated layers between the glass and solar cells.
However, only a small percentage of solar panels is recycled, with the
majority being sent to landfills or specialist waste facilities. The
lack of standardized recycling processes and legislation means that
there is currently no economically viable solution for dealing with
solar panel waste. Solar panel manufacturers are increasingly using
materials like silicon, silver, and copper which can be recovered
through thermal and chemical approaches. Developments in recycling
technology, such as femtosecond laser welding, could lead to a more
circular economy for solar panels and address the issue of waste from
decommissioned solar panels.

This article discusses how some individuals share conspiracies online
without actually believing them, as a way to promote conflict, cause
chaos, or make money. These opportunists aim to influence people and
potentially radicalize them by using conspiracy theories as a
\"gateway.\" Extremist groups are known to intentionally use
conspiracies for recruitment purposes. Research shows that those with
positive feelings towards extremist groups are more likely to share
false content, such as COVID-19 conspiracies. Examples of opportunistic
conspiracists include the Boogaloo Bois militia group and one of its
members, Aron McKillips, who were arrested in 2022 for their involvement

The European Court has limited the use of personal data by companies. It
opposed the \"data minimization\" principle established in the General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), stating that all personally
identifiable information should be aggregated, analyzed and processed
without time limits or distinction for targeted advertising purposes.
This decision was based on a lawsuit filed by Austrian data protection
activist Max Schrems against Facebook. In the past, Schrems had achieved
two notable victories in his legal disputes with Facebook, which
affected the entire data exchange between the US and the European Union.
Schrems criticized Meta for not following the \"data minimization\"
principle and simply storing all online behavior rather than limiting
processing to what is necessary. The Court ruled that only a small part
of Meta\'s data pool could be used for advertising purposes. In
response, Meta stated that they take privacy seriously and have invested
more than five billion euros in integrating data protection into the
core of their products. Users of Facebook can access a wide range of

The Ham Street in Mallorca has existed since the early days of the
world-famous Ballermann in the 80s. Located near Ballermann 6 in El
Arenal, it is home to the legendary Bierkönig and takes its name from
the Casa de Jamon (ham shop). The small corner pub between the beer bar
and the Hotel Pabisa Bali has been around long before tourism. Due to
its proximity to Ballermann 6 and the few hotels like Flamingo or Riu
San Francisco, it became popular with vacationers. Today, it still
serves delicious Serrano ham and Spanish tapas. The bar is especially
popular among taxi drivers and has changed very little since its
inception. Once the sun sets, the Schinkenstraße comes alive with stars,
celebrities, and PR teams partying until dawn. The Hotel Niagara in the
Schinkenstrasse is perfect for hardcore Mallorca fans who don\'t want to
travel far. From the hotel, a short walk takes you to the Bierkönig. In
addition to the Bierkönig, there are other establishments and food
stands on the street. The flirting factor in Schinkenstraße is high as
tables at Bamboleo and Bierkönig are often well-populated. Large hotels
are nearby, and partygoers often start their night at Ballermann with a
stroll through the Ham Street. New etiquette rules for Ham Street were
issued by the Palma de Mallorca City Hall in summer 2019.

so fast, and why does it appear in Einstein\'s famous equation relating
energy and mass? The answer to these questions lies in particle physics
and the resulting structure of matter. The speed of light in empty
space, usually denoted as \'c\', appears in the equation E=mc2. The
energy stored in ordinary objects is enormous compared to daily life
because c represents a gargantuan number. This article explores why the
speeds of daily life must be slow and provides a step-by-step approach

This article discusses the importance of restoring a proper balance

have more autonomy to make decisions based on their expertise in
efficiency. The current approach is flawed, as it relies solely on
Product Owners providing direction for engineers who are then tasked
with implementing these instructions. This structure leaves teams
vulnerable and unable to adapt quickly to dynamic environments. Instead,
the ideal role for a Product Owner would be to provide data and
assessment rather than directing engineers. The article suggests that
engineers should be asking more questions of their product owners to
gather valuable information and make informed decisions, ultimately
allowing them to leverage their specialty in creating efficient
solutions for customers.

Methane emissions from the fossil fuel industry are a significant
contributor to global warming and have been identified as responsible
for up to 30% of the rise in global temperatures since the Industrial
Revolution. To tackle this challenge, various efforts like the Global
Methane Pledge and the International Energy Agency\'s (IEA) annual
Global Methane Tracker report have been made. Satellite data from NASA
EMIT, GHGSat, and MethaneSAT have revealed huge plumes that have been
flowing for decades. However, a key point of disagreement in the global
methane debate is around liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping. Some
scientists argue that LNG may be responsible for more CO2-equivalent
emissions than coal due to fugitive emissions from tankers and
significant upstream emissions from gas extraction. New satellite data
will continue to help researchers estimate the LNG shipping industry\'s
emissions and contribute to initiatives like ClimateTRACE, which aims at
estimating emissions from the global shipping industry.

The European Union (EU) has adopted an informal definition of
\"potential terrorists\" to facilitate the collection and sharing of
information on those who may engage in political violence, with
potential for a broader application. This move is aimed at targeting
radicalism and \"radicalisation,\" which gained prominence in 2011 when
the European Commission established the Radicalisation Awareness
Network. The new informal definition of potential terrorist could lead
to the collection and sharing of data on more people than those involved
in terrorism and violence, including asylum seekers and refugees,
climate and environmental activists. This development comes amidst the
EU\'s rollout of new information systems and an updated Europol mandate,
which will expand the EU\'s collection of information on \"risky\"
individuals.

the ARD alone having 9 times more. It criticizes public broadcasters for
wasting money on acquiring football rights and producing low-quality
evening entertainment programs instead of providing educational content
or delivering quality news. The article then introduces a strategy from
public broadcaster producers to close down 3sat, a high-quality part of
the public broadcast system in Germany. It suggests that this move is
aimed at preventing outrage over closing it and avoiding having to shut
down dozens of ZDF digital channels that no one watches. The author
concludes by stating that they would punish anyone who proposed closing

between 2013-2015, almost three times higher than the national average.
AOK-Hessen suggests that not all of these operations are necessary and
there might be a competition among ten local clinics, leading to an
increase in heavy and expensive surgeries in recent years. Insiders
report how clinics close cooperation agreements with private doctors who
recommend their patients for surgeries at the clinic while also
operating on them. This results in higher fees for the doctors and
additional income for the clinic. Critics argue that some of these
operations are unnecessary or performed too often, posing double risks

that you can try out to improve your AI-generated art. FLUX and prompt
engineering: Before diving into specific prompts, it is essential to
understand what makes FLUX unique and how to create effective prompts
for this model. FLUX excels at generating highly detailed,
photorealistic images, particularly when it comes to human subjects. It
has a strong understanding of light, textures, and subtle facial
features that contribute to the overall realism of the generated images.

When creating prompts for FLUX, consider the following tips: - Use
natural language instead of keyword stuffing - Be specific about the
details you want in the image - Include information about lighting,
setting, and mood - Experiment with different descriptions for facial
features and expressions

With these guidelines in mind, let\'s explore ten powerful FLUX prompts
that showcase its abilities: 1. Anakin AI\'s young speaker (a
charismatic speaker is captured mid-speech)... 2. The experienced
journalist (an experienced journalist in her late 50s)... 3. The
skilled craftsman at work (a medieval woodworker working on a piece of
mahogany)... 4. The lively street performer (a lively street performer
in her early 30s...)... 5. The contemplative elderly man (an older
indigenous man in his late 80s gazing thoughtfully at a distant mountain
range)... 6. The determined athlete (a marathon runner in her late 20s
approaching the finish line)... 7. The eccentric inventor (a quirky
inventor in his mid-60s standing proudly by his latest creation...)...
8. The serene yoga teacher (a calm yoga instructor in her early 40s
demonstrating a challenging pose at the beach during sunrise)... 9. The
passionate chef (a passionate chef in his late 30s preparing a gourmet
dish)... 10. The wise grandmother (a loving grandmother reading to her
grandchild in a cozy living room).

**[Trump\'s Weird Debate Strategies Come From Creationist
Tactics](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/trumps-weird-debate-strategies-come-from-creationist-tactics/)**:

The Gish Gallop, named after creationist Duane Gish who frequently
challenged biologists about evolution, is a tactic that involves talking
fast and bombarding opponents with falsehoods and cherry-picked factoids
in order to confuse the audience. This method has been increasingly used
in political debates and opinion pages, leading to a dangerous
degradation of honest dialogue. In politics, Donald Trump is an expert
at using the Gish Gallop, overwhelming opponents with falsehoods and
making it difficult for them to effectively counter his arguments. To
combat this tactic, opponents should focus on refuting the overall
message rather than each individual lie.

**[Evidence of 'Negative Time' Found in Quantum Physics
Experiment](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/evidence-of-negative-time-found-in-quantum-physics-experiment/)**:

Researchers from the University of Toronto have discovered that photons,
wave-particles of light, can spend a negative amount of time zipping
through a cloud of chilled atoms, effectively making them appear to exit
a material before entering it. This phenomenon was observed during an
experiment in which photons were shot through a cloud of ultracold
rubidium atoms and the resulting atomic excitation measured. The study
found that sometimes photons would pass through unscathed, yet the atoms
would still become excited---and for just as long as if they had
absorbed those photons. This counterintuitive finding illustrates how
quantum physics can lead to unexpected outcomes.

**[Pluralistic: Epic Systems, a lethal health record monopolist (02 Oct
2024)](https://pluralistic.net/2024/10/02/upcoded-to-death/#thanks-obama)**:

Epic Systems is a health record monopolist that has created an
electronic health record (EHR) system in America which doctors are
required to use. The system has been criticized for being unfit for
purpose but generates profit-generating results due to upcoding, a form
of billing fraud that is loved by hospital administrators and private
companies offering Medicare Advantage plans. The company\'s EHR system
has led to increased administrative workload for doctors as they have to
spend two hours on clinically useless bureaucratic data-entry for every
hour spent with patients, and it has also been criticized for its role
in the upcoding of patient care levels leading to higher reimbursement
from insurers and Medicare.

This article discusses how corporate malware spam is used as a
preventative measure against other malware spam attacks. It explains
that identifying a phishing training campaign can help you improve your
filters and avoid being bothered by such emails in the future. Phishing
training campaigns have automatically detectable traits, such as
X-Header lines, which can be filtered for. To create a filter, users
need to add a rule based on the unique header line of the phishing
training service provider used by their company. By doing this, the
mailer will automatically ignore subsequent runs of the phishing
training campaign, ensuring peace of mind and protection from malware
spam attacks.

bundling of applications makes it difficult for users to choose an
alternative product in one specific area. To promote competition and
foster innovation, there needs to be a shift towards open standards that
are accessible to all developers. Microsoft should focus on providing
good user experience, security, updates, and support rather than
restricting customers with its monopoly.

**[Is the World Really Running Out of Sand? --- Practical
Engineering](https://practical.engineering/blog/2024/10/1/is-the-world-really-running-out-of-sand)**:

The article discusses the idea that the world is not running out of
sand, as it touches nearly every part of our lives and has a rich and
deep science behind it. The author debunks some widely-spread myths
about sand, such as its scarcity, and highlights its importance in the
construction industry for materials like glass, semiconductors, fiber
optics, filters, and abrasives. They also mention that sand is an
essential ingredient in concrete, and can be made by transforming big
rocks into small ones through machines like a hammer. The article argues
against the idea of using wind-blown sands in concrete due to their
shape, as it is the water content in the mix and not the shape that
affects its strength. They conclude by stating that sand\'s scarcity is
more about cost than actual availability, and that technology can have a
significant impact on this matter.

incorporate AI tools effectively.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

**[I Quit Teaching Because of
ChatGPT](https://time.com/7026050/chatgpt-quit-teaching-ai-essay/)**:

The author, a former educator in the field of writing and literature,
explains why they decided to quit teaching due to the prevalence of
AI-generated text among students. They argue that AI tools such as
ChatGPT can harm students\' abilities to think critically and develop
their own writing skills, leading to a reliance on generative AI for
tasks like paraphrasing and drafting research articles. The author notes
that while some students acknowledge the limitations of these AI tools,
they continue to use them anyway. To counteract this trend, educators
must shift their focus away from mechanical activities and towards
encouraging critical thinking and engaging with the writing process as a
means of idea generation and clarification.

**[Multiversion Python
Thoughts](https://lucumr.pocoo.org/2024/9/9/multiversion-python/)**:

The article discusses the challenges and potential solutions for making
multi-version imports work in Python, enabling multiple resolutions from
a solver and allowing two incompatible versions of a library to be
installed and used simultaneously. The author suggests placing modules
in different places outside of site-packages and materializing a
[distribution]{.underline} field onto them or providing an API to map
import names to their PyPI distribution name. Additionally, the article
proposes patching [import]{.underline} to resolve packages based on who
imports it and registering proxy entries in sys.modules with dynamic
[getattr]{.underline} methods for redirection. However, there are many
holes and potential challenges in this approach.

**[Arterielle Steifigkeit: Das unterschätzte
Risiko](https://www.doccheck.com/de/detail/articles/44744-arterielle-steifigkeit-das-unterschaetzte-risiko)**:

The article discusses a study that found arterial stiffness in youth can
lead to premature heart damage and diabetes. Experts caution that blood
pressure reduction can help counteract these effects. The study showed
that youth with the highest levels of arterial stiffness had a 23-27%
increased risk of worsening structural heart damage over a 7-year
period. Arterial stiffness was found to be an independent cause of both
structural and functional heart damage, whereas increased carotid wall
thickness did not seem to have a causal role. The study also reported
that arterial stiffness led to heart damage through increased blood
pressure and insulin resistance, with blood pressure accounting for 34%
and insulin resistance 15% of heart damage caused by arterial stiffness.
The researchers concluded that arterial stiffness is a new cause of
several diseases, including hypertension, insulin resistance, metabolic
syndrome, and heart damage in young people, and that preventing and
reducing blood pressure and insulin resistance could halve the negative
effects of arterial stiffness on the heart.

**[You\'ve Never Heard of the World\'s Most Common
Mineral](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9XgXyQzEcc) (Video):**

In the YouTube video, it is explained that bridgmanite, a mineral part
of the perovskite group, is the most common substance in the Earth\'s
lower mantle. Mineralogists named this mineral after Percy Bridgman, who
conducted studies on high-pressure environments in the 1940s. The
properties of perovskites are exciting for researchers, as they can be
found with over 90% of metallic elements on the periodic table. Halide
metal perovskites have potential applications in solar panel technology
due to their ability to efficiently convert sunlight into electricity at
relatively low temperatures.

Perovskite solar panels have seen significant improvement in efficiency,
reaching over 25% by 2022, which rivals the best silicon solar panels\'
efficiency levels. However, durability issues and concerns with
lead-based perovskites persist as challenges in the development of these
technologies.

enormen logistischen Herausforderung machen.

Finanzfluss](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uet06Fvi9bE) (Video):**

This YouTube video discusses the personal investment journey of Thomas
from Finanzus, focusing on his 2016, 2021, and current portfolio. He
explains how he started investing at age 14 with his father\'s guidance
and has been doing so since then. He initially invested in stocks but
switched to ETFs in 2014. Thomas details the composition of each of his
portfolios and how they have evolved over time.

In 2016, his portfolio consisted mostly of a world portfolio based on
Gerd Kommer\'s recommendations and P2P loans with an 8% allocation,
which he later sold due to compliance reasons. He also had a 3% life
insurance position. In 2021, his portfolio had an 80% allocation in
ETFs, a 10% cash allocation, and small positions in bitcoin and P2P
lending.

In Thomas\'s current portfolio (2024), he has invested 60% of his assets
into a real estate property, leaving around 30% in ETFs and 5.9% in
Bitcoin. He mentions experimenting with start-ups, satellite
investments, and dividend stocks, but ultimately reducing these
allocations.

Future expectations include continued focus on ETFs, possibly adding a
Europe Stock 600 ETF, an Emerging Markets ex-China ETF, and expanding
the satellite portfolio for testing more exotic securities. Thomas
emphasizes that his investments are subject to change as he learns,
experiments, and reassesses his strategies over time.

**[Russia Is Changing Its Nuclear Doctrine - Atomic Coercion, Ukraine &
the Nuclear Threshold](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7aUoEnVCWQ)
(Video):**

In the provided transcript of a YouTube video, the main topic revolves
around Russia\'s nuclear doctrine and its potential changes. The speaker
begins by discussing the various scenarios under which Russia might
consider using nuclear weapons according to their 2020 principles. These
include the use or threat of use of nuclear or other weapons of mass
destruction against Russia, attacks on critical sites that could
undermine Russia\'s ability to respond with nuclear force, and a
situation where Russia is being attacked to such an extent that its very
existence is in jeopardy.

The speaker then shifts focus to October 2022 when there was speculation
about the potential use of a dirty bomb by Ukraine. This led to a series
of diplomatic exchanges between Russia and various Western countries,
including the United States, UK, and France. Despite these allegations,
no evidence of a dirty bomb being used or prepared emerged, and
international consensus remained that such claims were unfounded.

Fast forward to 2024, Putin has announced changes to Russia\'s nuclear
doctrine, introducing more ambiguity around when it might use nuclear
weapons. One significant shift is the potential for Russia to interpret
aggression against it by a non-nuclear state as a joint attack if there
is participation or support from a nuclear state. This could potentially
include countries like the United States that are providing military aid
to Ukraine.

The implications of these changes in Russian doctrine have been
discussed, with experts suggesting that while they may lower the
threshold for potential future Russian nuclear use, strategic realities
and international incentives still play a crucial role in restraining
such actions. The speaker highlights factors such as the nuclear taboo,
the risk of alienating key trade partners like China and India, and the
potential destabilizing effects on the global non-proliferation system
if nuclear threats are not resisted.

The executive summary of this video would be: The transcript discusses
Russia\'s nuclear doctrine and its potential changes in light of the
ongoing war in Ukraine. While there have been adjustments to lower the
threshold for use, strategic realities and international incentives
still play a significant role in restraining such actions. It emphasizes
that nuclear threats must be resisted to uphold the global
non-proliferation system and prevent further proliferation.

Grund!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLRDws7b8G4) (Video):**

In this YouTube video, the speaker discusses Germany\'s high electricity
prices compared to other European countries. They argue that while some
media sources attribute these high costs to rising network charges and
taxes, they believe this is not entirely accurate due to discrepancies
in data from various sources.

The speaker points out a difference between Verivox (2023 average
electricity price: 32 cents per kWh) and the Federal Statistical
Office\'s data (2023 average electricity price: 42 cents per kWh). They
question why people are not experiencing lower electricity prices, given
these discrepancies.

The video also addresses Germany\'s ranking in terms of energy costs,
with the speaker suggesting that the country is among the most expensive
due to factors such as net metering regulations and higher charges for
renewable energies. They emphasize the need to switch from panic-driven
information to scientific explanations when discussing electricity
prices.

The speaker delves into the causes of high electricity costs, exploring
price components such as feed-in tariffs (EEG-Umlage), network charges,
and other additional fees that contribute to the overall cost per
kilowatt hour (kWh). They argue that the Bundesnetzagentur\'s data is
not accurately reflecting current energy prices, with some calculations
indicating that Germany ranks among the world\'s most expensive in terms
of electricity costs.

The speaker concludes by urging people to switch power suppliers and
questions the responsibility of utility companies for not adjusting
customers\' electricity bills accordingly after declining market prices.
In summary, the video raises concerns about the accuracy of electricity
cost data in Germany and advocates for consumers to reevaluate their
energy choices.

**[Vasektomie： Was bedeutet eine Sterilisation für den Mann？ ｜ Puls
｜ SRF Wissen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tlaf9QmAcWU) (Video):**

**[What is Israel's endgame for
Gaza？](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZhD4G7ENSY) (Video):**

This video discusses the Israeli plan for Gaza, focusing on their
construction of buffer zones known as corridors. Israel is building road
networks across the Gaza Strip and establishing fortified checkpoints,
watchtowers, bases, and surveillance tools to monitor any point in the
territory without occupying it entirely. This strategy aims to prevent
Hamas from rebuilding its forces or conducting attacks on Israeli
settlements. The Philadelphia Corridor and other buffer zones are
essential to Israel\'s endgame for Gaza, which is to dismantle Hamas\'s
presence in the region. Egypt objects to this plan as it might violate
the 1979 peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. The situation in Gaza
remains complex, with ongoing negotiations around these buffer zones and
the potential future of the area.

In the Transcript eines Youtube Videos, the following topics are
discussed:

1\. Search for a Man Promising to Obtain Driver\'s Licenses in Kenya:
The video begins with an investigation into a man who claims to help
individuals obtain driver\'s licenses from Kenya, even if their licenses
have been revoked in Germany. This is particularly appealing as it seems
to bypass the \"MPU\" (Idiotentest) requirement for individuals with
driving-related offenses such as alcohol or drug use while driving.

2\. MPU Test and its Importance: The video explains the MPU test, which
is mandatory for drivers who lose their licenses due to serious traffic
violations like drunk driving. This test aims to assess whether an
individual has changed their behavior and will abstain from similar
offenses in the future.

3\. Case of Bernd Trapp: The story of Bernd Trapp, a man from Moosbach
bei Heilbronn who lost his driver\'s license due to alcohol-related
driving offenses, is presented. He fell for an online offer promising

4\. MPU Market: The video explores the MPU market, highlighting its
growth and the various players involved, including unscrupulous advisors
who promise quick solutions without proper rehabilitation or
understanding of the underlying issues leading to the loss of the
license.

5\. Role of Psychological Assessment in MPU: The importance of
psychological assessment during the MPU process is emphasized. Serious
flaws are noted in this system due to inadequate funding and time
constraints for evaluators, resulting in some individuals passing
without proper rehabilitation or understanding their behavior patterns.

6\. Fake Stories and Manipulation: The video uncovers a trend where some
advisors help clients craft fake stories to manipulate the MPU process
and gain approval without addressing underlying issues. This is
considered highly unethical and can have serious consequences for road
safety if individuals return to driving without proper understanding of
their past mistakes.

7\. Fake Documents and Corruption: The video also explores the issue of
fake documents, such as driver\'s licenses from foreign countries or
manipulated psychological assessments. It highlights the corruption in
Kenya where a German advisor was operating an unlicensed driving school
and providing fake documents to clients.

8\. Consequences of Unserious MPU Advice: The final segment focuses on
the consequences of unserious advice, such as those given by advisors
who prioritize making money over ensuring proper rehabilitation for
their clients. It highlights the case of Alexandra Malenkroth, a woman
who lost her license due to drunk driving and had to go through multiple

zusammenbrechen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2atR53tbU8) (Video):**

1\. The importance of microchips in our modern world: Microchips are
found in smartphones, laptops, game consoles, cars, and play a vital
role in the industrial production of various goods. Without them, the
world would be significantly different. 2. The German product\'s
contribution to the microchip industry: ASML (Advanced Semiconductor
Materials Lithography) is an essential contributor to modern
semiconductor manufacturing due to its lithography machines used for
creating microchips. Zeiss, a German company, supplies ASML with
specialized mirrors that enable extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography
for these machines. 3. Difficulties in microchip production: The
challenges arise from the extremely small size of microchips, requiring
precision and intricate techniques to produce millions of transistors
within a fingernail-sized space. Only a few companies like TSMC (Taiwan
Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and Intel are capable of creating
advanced microchips with the help of halogenic materials such as
silicon. 4. ASML\'s lithography process: The production of modern
microchips involves precise optical elements, including mirrors, and
lenses that manipulate ultraviolet light to create nanometer-scale
patterns on a wafer, which are then cut into individual chips.
Specialized EUV lamps are used for higher capacity and efficiency in
chip fabrication. 5. Importance of Zeiss\'s specialized mirrors: Zeiss
manufactures the world\'s thinnest and highest quality EUV mirrors that
allow ASML\'s machines to focus EUV light with precision. This
contributes to increasing chip capacities and improving performance,
making Zeiss an integral part of advanced microchip production. 6.
Potential competition from China: Current regulations and restrictions
limit China\'s access to cutting-edge microchip technology. It may take
at least 10 years for a Chinese competitor to develop its own EUV
lithography machines, and the collaboration between Zeiss and ASML
remains dominant in the industry. 7. Zeiss beyond microchips: The
company is also involved in developing advanced optics and participated
in the development of the James Webb Space Telescope, which enabled
unprecedented observations into the universe\'s early history and search
for habitable exoplanets.

1\. Toxic masculinity: The term \"toxic masculinity\" is often overused
and misunderstood in contemporary gender debates, with people using it
to describe traditional male traits such as competitiveness, aggressive
ambition, or historical attitudes that made men struggle to express
emotions and vulnerability. It is also used to describe behaviors some
people find distasteful when exhibited by men. The speaker emphasizes
the importance of distinguishing between genuinely toxic behaviors and
cultural stereotypes.

2\. Actual examples of toxicity: One example discussed is a case in
France involving a woman named Giselle Pelico, who was drugged and
sexually abused by her ex-husband for over nine years. The speaker notes
that the case has sparked discussions on men\'s role in sexual assault
and whether or not it can be generalized as an issue of male toxicity.

3\. The problem is complex: While acknowledging that men are involved in
a disproportionate number of sexual offenses, with over 90% being
committed by men, the speaker stresses that it is unfair to label all
men as inherently problematic or toxic. Toxic masculinity should be
examined within a context of specific cases and not applied
indiscriminately.

4\. The role of biology: Although women exhibit more emotional control
and manipulation in their sexuality, men\'s propensity for sexually
aggressive violence is often rooted in biological factors such as
hormones and socialization, including the programming of male sexual
instincts and impulse control. The speaker notes that in cases where a
woman commits similar abuses against her husband, it is not labeled as
an issue with all women.

5\. Society\'s ambivalence towards men: Men often show extreme
variability in their strengths and weaknesses - they can be creative
geniuses, brilliant scientists, or even the most destructive forces
through criminality and sexual violence. The speaker emphasizes that it
is essential not to oversimplify this complex dynamic but to understand
its nuances within society.

6\. Men as both problem creators and solution providers: Men are
responsible for addressing various issues in society, such as crime,
domestic violence, and sexual assault. However, the speaker stresses
that they also contribute significantly by offering solutions through
their skills, expertise, and efforts in fields like science, technology,
and security services.

In conclusion, the issue of toxic masculinity is complex and cannot be
generalized indiscriminately as a problem with all men or male traits.
It is important to analyze specific cases while understanding the
varying strengths, weaknesses, and contributions of men within society.

ARTE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugNPOAOmk5Q) (Video):**

1\. The Growing Problem of Affordable Housing: Key points: - Housing is
a commodity, and prices are increasing globally due to economic crises
and the growing demand for housing. - Demand is higher in large cities
where people work or study, creating an imbalance between supply and
demand, making affordable housing harder to find and maintain. - Home
ownership has become a personal priority for many individuals, and
rising rents are forcing some to move due to increasing costs. - Many
countries struggle to find solutions as the global housing market
becomes more volatile and unaffordable for the average consumer.

2\. The History of Land Ownership: Key points: - Ownership rights have
evolved from nomadic tribesmen, who were mostly interested in hunting
and animal husbandry, to land cultivation as a means of survival. -
Private property rights became increasingly important with the
establishment of Christianity and the rise of empires during the
medieval era. - The Protestant Reformation challenged the idea that
everything belonged to God by advocating for individuals\' right to
self-determination, including deciding how land is used.

3\. The Tragedy of the Commons: Key points: - The concept was first
introduced in 1968 by Garrett Hardin, who described the tragedy as an
overconsumption of common resources due to individual self-interest. -
Hardin suggests that to resolve this problem, fences can be put up to
divide and allocate land individually, where each owner has
responsibility and control for their respective piece. - This would
prevent overgrazing on the shared grazing area and lead to more
sustainable use of resources, benefiting all parties involved.

4\. The Role of Speculation in Housing Prices: Key points: - Speculation
has increased as investment properties have become a popular form of
asset. Investors are attracted to the high return on investments. -
Central banks, like the European Central Bank, have played significant
roles in interest rates, with changes in these rates affecting housing
prices and demand. - The rise in energy prices and the construction
industry\'s labor shortage has also contributed to increased building
costs.

5\. Urban Planning and Alternative Solutions: Key points: - Belgium
provides an example of how dispersed urban planning can lead to a
disconnected settlement structure, which is not sustainable in the long
term. - Existing vacant buildings and spaces should be better utilized
for affordable housing instead of demolishing and rebuilding from
scratch. - There are innovative solutions available like modular
construction that can reduce costs while still providing adequate living
space.

6\. The Role of Governments and Municipalities in Housing: Key points: -
Cities should strategically manage their land supply and affordable
housing policies to meet the needs of the community. - Vienna, for
instance, has managed to create a considerable number of social housing
units, which it owns and regulates to maintain affordability. -
Governments can influence urban planning decisions through land use
regulations, which in turn can have long-term effects on housing supply
and pricing.

7\. The Alternative Model: The Dutch Way: Key points: - In the
Netherlands, people move frequently within their lifetime (every seven
to nine years) due to a flexible housing market that allows for changes
based on life stage and family size. - This approach leads to efficient
land usage and minimal unoccupied properties in residential areas.

8\. Reconsidering Homeownership Ideals: Key points: - Society\'s
idealization of homeownership, along with cultural attachment to
single-family homes, is contributing to the housing crisis by driving up
prices and creating unaffordable living spaces for many individuals. -
Challenging this assumption may allow people to reconsider alternative
housing models, such as renting or communal living arrangements that can
be more sustainable in terms of both space and financial investment.

**[Die ersten Belagerungen der Geschichte -- 5000-1500 v.
Chr.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-112cxxim6Y) (Video):**

**[LSP Explained (in 5
Minutes)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaS32vctfOY) (Video):**

Language Server Protocol (LSP) is a communication protocol between
editors and language servers. It provides real-time information about
the state of the project, errors, and autocompletion features. The
primary stakeholders are Microsoft and VS Code. Originally open-sourced
in 2016, LSP gained prominence around 2020 as it became a requirement
for many languages\' ecosystems. Some implementations include Rust
Analyzer, GoPLS, and TS Server executed by Node. This communication
protocol simplifies the work of both editors and language maintainers,
reducing the M by N problem, resulting in better support and integration
across various editor platforms.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

**[LSP： Building a Language Server From
Scratch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xo5VXTRoL6Q) (Video):**

The transcript of the YouTube video is about building a language server
from scratch to learn the Language Server Protocol (LSP). The host
starts with an empty TypeScript file and ends up with a working language
server, demonstrating how to build features like initialization,
completion, and document synchronization. Here\'s a summary of the
different topics discussed:

1\. **Introduction and Setup**: The host explains why building your own
language server is beneficial for learning and growth as a developer.
They then set up Visual Studio Code (VSCode) with a minimum viable
language server extension repository, which includes all the necessary
code to launch and coordinate communication between the client and
server processes.

2\. **Understanding Language Server Protocol**: The host explains that
LSP is based on JSON RPC 2.0 and consists of request messages that
require responses and notifications messages that don\'t. They also
discuss the role of methods in LSP, which are essentially remote
functions that can be called between client and server.

3\. **Building a Buffered Reader**: The host describes how to build a
buffered reader in Node.js using \`process.stdin\` and
\`process.stdout\`. This allows them to read incoming JSON RPC messages
from the client and respond with their own messages over
\`process.stdout\`.

4\. **Implementing Initialization**: The host explains how to implement
the \`initialize\` method, which is the first request sent from the
client to the server when starting up a language server. They discuss
the different parts of an LSP message, including its JSON RPC prefix,
ID, method, and params.

5\. **Completion Proposals**: The host dives into implementing
completion proposals, which are suggestions for code completion as a
user types in their editor. They explain how to set up the server\'s
capabilities to include support for this feature, and provide an example
of how to generate completion items using a system dictionary file on
macOS or Unix-based systems.

6\. **Improving Completion Performance**: The host addresses the issue
of performance when sending large numbers of completion suggestions.
They discuss using \`textDocumentSync\` to keep track of changes to
documents, and explain how this can be used in conjunction with
\`didChangeTextDocument\` notifications to maintain an up-to-date
in-memory representation of the user\'s text documents.

7\. **Connecting to Other Clients**: The host concludes by showing how
to connect their language server from another client, such as NeoVim.
This demonstrates that LSP is client-agnostic and can be used with any
editor that supports it.

**Executive Summary:** The video provides a comprehensive guide on
building a language server from scratch using TypeScript, covering
topics like buffered reading, implementing initialization and completion
proposals, performance optimization, and connecting to other clients.
This practical tutorial helps developers understand the Language Server
Protocol better and encourages them to build upon their newfound
knowledge to create more advanced features in future projects.
